Actually, I used to think Lexile's were arbitrary until I finished my four years of teaching READ 180 and consistently watching low Lexile readers make significant gains over the course of a year and then pass the state exam a year early. And when you inevitably ask the question, "How do you know it relates to their Lexile going up?" I will answer with, "I know because I saw their state scores before we began the program, regularly assessed them on state practice exams while also testing their Lexiles. So, my personal story evidence suggests that as theri Lexile went up, so did their actual reading ability, which then translated onto state exam scores. So, please write back and try to dump some more rain on this parade, but we're still going to march on!
