In Their Own Words
The Washington Post is running a series on teachers trying to succeed with difficult students. I know the feelings.
I teach because I have to. In all the jobs I've had to pay my way through life, only teaching has (as of today) not left an empty feeling. This is my calling; and sometimes I feel that I chose to teach as much as teaching chose me. *Note: The thoughts expressed here are my own and not intended to represent the school or district I work for.

Thanks for directing me to this, Mr. McNamar. And I also read your last post: "I am bent on becoming a great teacher, and yet, this year has been my least successful. Many of the strategies I have used in the past, with great effect, do not work." I know YOUR feelings, too. And although you have to try to adapt and make things work now, maybe the main problem isn't you.
