Adults Ruin Everything (A Running Series)

A Kindergartener has been suspended from school for sporting a mowhawk. Linda Geyer, the principal, had warned the family that the hairstyle was not acceptable. And so, because he sported it again, she laid the administrative smack down on the young delinquent. Geyer went so far as to call the hairstyle a distraction which disrupted the school day--also grounds for removal.
Ms. Geyer, I wonder if the mowhawk is any more of a distraction than the reporters stopping by or calling your school?

Listen, adults, stop being stupid. Just stop. Step back; take a deep breath and look at the big picture.

Amen. I wonder if there's something about being over a certain age that increases the stoopid gene.

His hair is cute. It's not like a tall spiky mohawk. I had a girl in high school who shaved her head. It seems really wrong to punish a kid for a hairstyle his parents chose. I can see enforcing rules on older kids who do this (even if I don't agree with it because I just don't care what a kid does to his hair -- I just want to teach so they can learn), but to suspend a kindergartner for that reason is just ridiculous.

I'm always baffled by "educators" who use the removal of education as punishment for offense which harm no one. What message does that send?

Public schools do not have the authority to regulate hairstyle. The ACLU should pick this up. His rights have been violated.
