Things that make me nervous...

Wednesday, November 2nd will be the first day of this school year that I won't be teaching. I've been selected for jury duty. Now, many agree that taking part in jury duty is an essential aspect of one's civic responsibility, but for me, I think my civic responsibility is in the classroom. I'm nervous about leaving my students. 9th graders are squirrely, even with me there. (okay, I'll be honest, I'm mostly going to miss them, but the image conscious teacher thing to say is that I'm nervous about leaving them!)

Tuesday, November 1st I participated in a meeting regarding some expensive curriculum. I had the opportunity to see a few central office personnel in a different atmosphere than normal. Now, I've stirred the pot, unintentionally and perhaps as a result of my very east coast voice/tone, in the past, but when I meet people for the first time and they make jokes about me, like they already know me, I get a little nervous. Now don't get me wrong, I can handle a little ribbing, I certainly ought to considering the amount I can dish out, but it really did throw me for a loop (any other cliches I could use in this post?)

I have jury duty later this month, too, and I'm nervous I'll be called up for a trial. I've been told they really don't care if you're a teacher and will miss a lot of class. Anyway, I feel the same way you do. My responsibility is to teach my students, and I really don't want to me out.

Should be "be out" not "me out." Anyway, I'd much rather be teaching, and I, too, would miss the students.

Jury duty huh? Some people at my work have jury duty this month too. They're trying to get out of it.

I would like to have jury duty. I think it would be interesting.

Regarding you wanting to teach instead um, thats interesting as well. I dont know why. It cant be that bad can it? Its always nice to have a sub. Yeah they usually dont teach the same way, but I always remember a sense of relief when I walk in and saw a sub. Not that I dint like my teachers, but usually you get no homework from the class and you have a night with less homework. (ALWAYS a plus)

I might be missing your point completely, and for that I'm sorry, I didnt get much sleep last night.

But its nice to know you'd rather be teaching.

Anyway, good luck at your jury duty. Make the best of it, and dont think too much about your students. They'll be there when you return. ;D

Something that get me so nervous is giving a speech in from of many people. I know that it happens to many people, but it is so embarrassing to be unable to do such a simple thing as give a speech is.
